2022 Ohio State Fair Preview Features Alfredo-Stuffed Turkey Thighs

We hear the butter cow moo and that can only mean one thing – it’s officially Ohio State Fair week.

Drive the news: The 167th annual assortment of rides, animals, music and fried treats kicks off Wednesday through August 7.

why is it important: The fair draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to central Ohio. This year marks its big comeback after being canceled in 2020 and held without an audience last year.

What’s new: The mystery butter sculpture is unveiled tomorrow. Previous creations include a bald eagle, Darth Vader, and more recently an astronaut crew to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing.

  • Other new features include an accessible nature-themed playground, a “Marvelous Mutts” show featuring rescue dog performers, and an oversized papier-mâché contest with mega animal creations.
  • Among the new culinary delights: stuffed turkey thighs Alfredo and Cajun waffle dogs. Our mouths are already watering.

What is the return: Country music legend Willie Nelson returns for his 10th fair performance. Check out the full concert schedule.

  • The fine arts exhibit will feature hundreds of pieces.
  • The famous giant slide – measuring 144 feet long – is one of 60 rides in total.

If you are going to: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday to Sunday. (Doors close at 6 p.m. on August 7.)

  • Admission: $10 for adults, $8 for children 6-12 and seniors. Free for children 5 and under!
  • Rides: $30 wristband all day.
  • Buy advance tickets online until tomorrow at a reduced price.
  • Free parking in the lots north of 17th Avenue. On busy days, additional parking is available at Ohio State‘s St. John Arena with shuttles to and from the fairgrounds.

Pro tip: On “Three Dollar Thursdays”, each food vendor sells specialty items for $3 each.
