Columbus firefighters save four lucky ducklings from car wash drain

Firefighters got a call (kiss) on Saturday, saying four ducklings had migrated down a car wash drain and needed help.

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Columbus firefighters came to the rescue of a few very lucky ducks who were just trying to stay afloat after getting stuck in a car wash siphon on Saturday morning.

An employee of Dirt Buster Car Wash, located on Johnson Boulevard, spotted a mother duck and two of her ducklings near a floor drain that runs the length of the car wash.

The employee looked around and discovered that there were ducklings that had entered the floor drain near the area where the mother duck and her ducklings were.

The car wash called the Columbus fire department who quickly robbed the co-op and came to help. As Columbus Animal Care Services attended the scene, firefighters removed the liner from the floor drain and pulled out four ducklings.

The ducklings were handed over to Columbus Animal Care Services staff for assessment, cleaning and screening for any injuries that occurred during the incident.

After getting the go-ahead, the ducklings were released to their anxious duck mother who led the feathered family as they made their way to a nearby holding pond.
