Domestic violence apparently claimed the life of a woman on the northeastern side
A 33-year-old woman has been killed and a man is in custody in what Columbus police said was an apparent marital dispute at a house on the northeast side.
Columbus Fire Department medics were called to a house on the 5100 block of Cleveland Avenue near Minerva Park at 8:26 p.m. on Saturday on a report from an unconscious person, but contacted police after realizing the woman involved had suffered a trauma.
She was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she died at 9 p.m., police reported. His death is the 193rd homicide of the year in Columbus.
A homicide detective said the woman suffered blunt trauma, suggesting she was beaten.
Detectives did not disclose the victim’s name early Monday afternoon pending notification from his family and withheld the suspect’s name – identified only as a 41-year-old man – as the suspect’s name because the murder involved a domestic feud and releasing her name would potentially identify her publicly before her family was notified.
Anyone with information about this incident or any homicide is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
