Whiteville, NC (Press Release) – Following complaints from citizens, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office continues to saturate the area surrounding Central Middle School to curb illegal activity, including drug distribution.

On May 25, 2021, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office HEAT team was patrolling the MLK Boulevard and Ward Street area in Whiteville.

MPs stopped an SUV driven by Samuel Tyrone Thompson, 46, of Whiteville.

Members observed the smell of marijuana emitted by the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was carried out. MPs found marijuana, crack cocaine, scales and a gun with ammunition inside the vehicle.

All items were seized and Thompson was arrested.

Thompson was transported to the Law Enforcement Center where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Criminal, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of Drug Accessories, Possession of Crime with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver Sch VI CS, felony of maintaining a vehicle to keep / sell a CS, and possession of Sch II CS for felony.

He received a guaranteed deposit of $ 20,000.

In the same area, assistants from the HEAT team stopped another vehicle on JK Powell Boulevard and Williamson Street in Whiteville.

The vehicle’s front seat passenger, Cheron Dewayne White, 27, of Loris, SC, had marijuana in his possession.

The vehicle was searched. A handgun was located in the passenger area. The objects were seized.

White was arrested and transported to the law enforcement center where he was charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, the misdemeanor carrying a concealed firearm and the misdemeanor of simple possession of Sch VI CS .

White received a guaranteed bond of $ 10,000.

On May 26, 2021, deputies from the HEAT team conducted a checkpoint on Old 74 near Mangum Road in Evergreen.

Jameka Todd, 30, of Whiteville approached the checkpoint.

Todd did not have a valid driver’s license and MPs observed the smell of marijuana emitted by the vehicle.

His vehicle was searched. MPs found cocaine hidden behind trimmings inside the vehicle. The cocaine was seized.

Todd was arrested and transported to the law enforcement center where she was charged with criminal possession of cocaine.

She received a guaranteed deposit of $ 1,500.
