William Richard “Rick” Stout, 70, of Parkersburg, passed away on October 15, 2021 at his residence. Born April 20, 1951, son of the late Robert and Jeannette (McFadden) Stout.

Rick grew up in the small town of Harrisville, WV. He recalled his childhood as an idyllic, healthy childhood, reminiscent of Mayberry on the Andy Griffith Show, where everyone knew each other. Rick looked forward to his warm memories of playing with his siblings and the neighborhood kids; bike adventures, hay, paper delivery, strawberry picking, Cub Scouts, church activities and 4-H camp. Rick boasted that over the years his mother has become a true encyclopedia of nature thanks to all the collections of leaves, rocks, insects and wildflowers that the seven Stout children have produced for projects. school.

Rick graduated from Harrisville High School in 1969. As a young man, Rick worked for his father’s family business, Ritchie Furniture & Appliance Company, and served in the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department. Rick sang in the church choir with his future wife, Penny, whom he married in 1971. He remained active in the church, co-founding a small group of family churches called the Joy Fellowship and founding a library of nonprofit Christian education loan called Resurrection Life Library. Rick attended the Ohio Valley Jesus Festivals and faithfully attended Resurrection Life Church in Belpre, OH for many years.

Like his father, Rick was never interested in working for someone else, preferring to be his own boss. Over the years, Rick’s freelance work has included real estate management and renovations, insurance sales, training and certifications, and IT setup services. In his later years, Rick was the dedicated owner of an online business that provided manuals for classic audio equipment, providing a valuable service to the vintage audio community.

In his spare time Rick enjoyed traveling to the mountains to camp and fish. Boating around the waterways of the Mid-Ohio Valley was a favorite pastime. In social settings, Rick was often the loudest voice in the room, making loud jokes and dominating conversations. Rick was a frank and genuine person who didn’t hesitate to share what he had in mind.

Rick would like his loved ones to know that he has returned to God our Father. If Rick was there to speak for himself he would say, “God is not mad at you. Our false identity may cause us to disbelieve it or act like this, but Jesus is still … The Lord!

Surviving Rick is his wife, Penny Stout; daughters Bethany Stout, Rachel Nonamaker (Todd) and Lydia Stout; son David Stout (Whitney); grandchildren Eirik Stout, Benjamin Nonamaker and Aaron Nonamaker (expected in November); brothers Randall Stout (Carol), Donald Stout (Denice), Kevin Stout and Michael Stout; and sister Stefanie Minor (John). With his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Robert Alan Stout. A private family reunion will be held in honor of Rick’s life on Tuesday, October 19.
