Three honored by Women in Leadership

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce announced the selection of three outstanding women who will share their stories at the Women in Leadership 2022 event in October.

The theme of this year’s event is “Survive and Thrive at Work”. It will feature a brief keynote address and remarks from three outstanding women leaders.

“Many of the most successful professionals in our community happen to be women. This event is always one of the busiest, as it allows us to come together to celebrate the important contributions that women make in our workplaces and in our community,” said Cindy Frey, Speaker of the Chamber.

This year’s winners are Julie Del Genio, Shen Macheel and Mary Stroh.

Del Genio is Human Resources Manager at Enkei America, Inc.

A lawyer by training, Del Genio has held professional positions at Cummins, Inc., Irwin Management and IMC Advisors. She has been a volunteer leader for United Way of Bartholomew County, Greater Columbus Economic Development Corp., kidscommons and the Columbus Area Arts Council.

Macheel is Vice President/Partner/Director of Government Programs at LER TechForce, an affiliate of LHP Engineering Solutions.

Macheel was a leader within the Chinese community in Columbus. She helped organize an exchange of rare personal protective equipment between our city and several of Columbus’ Chinese Friendship Cities, including Wuhan, Xiangyang and Ningde at the start of the pandemic. Macheel has played a key role in local economic development efforts, representing LHP on the board of the Greater Columbus Economic Development Corp. and joining Indiana’s trade missions to China, as a translator and cultural expert.

Stroh, is a partner at Sharpnack Bigley Stroh & Washburn LLP.

She has been an active volunteer and board member of the Foundation for Youth, Children Inc., Bartholomew County Bar Association Board of Directors, First United Methodist Church, United Way Citizens’ Review, Indianapolis Bar Review, Columbus Express Soccer Club and Lincoln Central. This year’s luncheon will be Wednesday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Commons.

During the program, each winner will have the opportunity to reflect on their professional journey and identify decisions that required courageous action.

In addition to hearing from the winners, Chancellor Professor of English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Julie Goodspeed-Chadwick, Ph.D., will speak to attendees about exploring the differences between surviving and thriving. in the workplace, through storytelling and evidence-based approaches.
